Kolkata Knight Riders Beat CSK, But BCCI Imposes Heavy Fine On Nitish Rana

In a match of IPL 2023, on May 14, the teams of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were face to face. Kolkata captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh played brilliant innings in this match, so the Kolkata team won against Chennai at Chepauk Stadium.

However, due to the slow over rate, Nitish Rana was fined Rs 24 lakh. Nitish committed this offence for the second time in this IPL season, so he was fined because of the ‘IPL Code of Conduct’. Even in the match against Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on May 8, KKR captain Nitish could not bowl the overs in the stipulated time.

Apart from Nitish, a 6 lakh or 25% match fee, whichever is less, has been imposed on the team’s playing XI and impact substitute player. IPL has also issued a press release in this regard.

Many Captains Have Come Under The Wrap Of Slow Over-rate

Delhi Capitals captain David Warner was fined Rs 12 lakh in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 24 due to a slow over-rate. On April 23, RCB made a mistake regarding the slower rate for the second time in the IPL. Because of this, RCB captain Virat Kohli was fined Rs 24 lakh.

At the same time, the rest of the players and Impact Substitute included in the playing 11 of RCB were also fined. He had to pay Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent match fee, whichever was less. Apart from this, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, and RCB captain Faf du Plessis have also been fined Rs 12 lakh each for flouting the IPL code of conduct related to clover rate.

What Is The Action On The Slower Rate?

The goal of IPL is that every match should end in three hours and 20 minutes. But, many IPL matches are stretching for more than four hours. If the team captain does slow over rate for the first time, then a fine of Rs 12 lakh is imposed on him. On the other hand, if a captain repeats the slow over rate, the entire team is fined.
