Desperate to host some matches of the Asia Cup in Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board is now persuading the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to let it host the first four matches of the first round or else walk out of the ACC. PCB chairman Najam Sethi’s ‘hybrid model’, under which Pakistan would play its home matches at home, apart from matches against India, was rejected by other member countries.
PCB rejects the proposal to hold Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. A reliable source said, “Najam Sethi has proposed to the ACC this week in Dubai as part of the plan B of the hybrid model to host four matches.”
He said that Sethi has also told the ACC that if Plan B is rejected, Pakistan will not play in the Asia Cup and will be pulled out of the Asian Cricket Council.
At the same time, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said on Thursday (May 11) that if India does not come to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup, the Pakistan government will not allow the Pakistan cricket team to play the World Cup in India. He also said that the only way for Pakistan to participate in the World Cup is if its matches are held in a neutral country.
Regarding the Asia Cup to be held in August-September, Pakistan President Najam Sethi has once again reiterated the proposal to host the tournament on the ‘hybrid model’. Najam Sethi said Pakistan never wanted an ‘all or nothing’ approach, adding that it would host India at neutral venues during the continental tournament, which will be held before the 2023 World Cup.
