The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Tuesday’s ODI World Cup 2023 schedule (June 27). The tournament will begin on October 5, and the final will be played on November 19. India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli has reacted to the World Cup schedule.
He said he is quite excited to play on the grounds of Mumbai. Please tell us that India will start its campaign on October 8. India’s first encounter will be with Australia. This match will be held in Chennai. At the same time, the Indian team will play its seventh league match on November 2 in Mumbai.
Kohli has fond memories attached to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. When Team India won the World Cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni in the year 2011, they defeated Sri Lanka in the final on this ground. Kohli was part of that champion team.
Kohli came out to bat at number four in the final and played a crucial inning of 35 runs. Kohli shared an 83-run partnership for the third wicket with Gautam Gambhir after the dismissals of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Chasing down a target of 275, India won the title match by 6 wickets.
Kohli told the ICC about the World Cup 2023, ‘I look forward to playing in Mumbai. There are lovely memories from here. It will be great to experience that atmosphere again’. He added, “I was very young then. I saw what it meant for the seniors. I understand what they must have gone through and how special it would have been to play a home World Cup. And how excited they must be.”
Significantly, the Indian team will play 9 league-stage matches in 9 cities. India and Pakistan will clash on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
