Team India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli has made a major announcement regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup. Virat Kohli has clarified that the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup will be his last for India.
The tournament, scheduled for October-November next year, will be played across 12 venues in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Virat Kohli began his World Cup career with the 2011 ODI World Cup hosted by India. Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India defeated Sri Lanka on April 2, 2011, to win the title, and Kohli was part of that historic team.
Virat Kohli has played in four ODI World Cups so far: 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023. In 2027, he will have the opportunity to end his World Cup career by winning a title. Virat Kohli is second on the list of highest run-scorers in ODI World Cup history. He also holds the record for the most runs scored in a single World Cup edition. Virat Kohli scored 765 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup. During this period, Kohli’s brilliant batting set several major tournament records.
Virat Kohli made a sudden statement.
In a conversation with Jio-Hotstar ahead of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, Virat Kohli said he wants to focus on preparing for next year’s ODI World Cup. Kohli clarified that the 2027 tournament will be his last World Cup for India, and his goal is to win the trophy. He also stated that he is fully prepared to do everything possible to achieve this goal.
“This will be my last World Cup…”
Virat Kohli said, “The intensity of the 50-over World Cup is the highest.” In a T20 World Cup, you play about 10 matches, but in a 50-over World Cup, you’re playing the equivalent of 2.5 T20 matches a day. Maintaining intensity in a major tournament, including the World Cup, is crucial.
Furthermore, this (2027 World Cup) is now being played under foreign conditions. It takes a lot of energy. For me, this will be my last World Cup for India, and that’s my motivation. That means giving it my all on the field. Of course, the goal is to win the World Cup, and I’m fully prepared to do whatever it takes to achieve it. Virat Kohli has so far scored 14,941 runs in 314 ODIs for India.
Will Rohit Sharma also play in the 2027 World Cup?
Along with Virat Kohli, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has also expressed his desire to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma has said that he is excited about the World Cup and is preparing for the challenges ahead. If both legendary batsmen are part of the Indian team in 2027, it will be a significant milestone in their ODI careers.
Regarding his plans to play in the ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma said, “I will never have the thought that my work is done. As long as you’re playing, there’s always hope for something new, and I’m looking forward to the World Cup and to seeing what’s ahead for me. When the World Cup is played, or when we play any ICC tournament, it presents a different kind of challenge because you face different teams and play in different venues. Therefore, you have to prepare differently, think differently, and that’s the challenge.”
