China has started agonizing over India sending the first batch of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines. The Chinese army has issued a statement calling it a threat to a third country. The BrahMos missile is among the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world. It is capable of hitting targets from land, air, and sea. China has said that in defence cooperation between the two countries, care should be taken not to harm any third party or regional peace.
In January 2022, India and the Philippines signed a deal worth $375 million regarding the BrahMos missile. India will hand over three batteries, their launchers and related materials, and the BrahMos missile to the Philippines. India handed over the first batch of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines on April 19, after which China was shocked. This was the first time that a BrahMos missile was exported from India.
Tension In the South China Sea
India sent the first batch of BrahMos missiles when China was having a dispute with five countries in the South China Sea. China makes its claim on the South China Sea; on the other hand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan also make their claims. When Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Colonel Wu Qian was questioned on this issue, he said China always keeps in mind that defence cooperation between two countries should not harm a third country.
China Protested Against America
During this, the Chinese spokesperson strongly opposed America’s deployment of ballistic missiles in the China-Asia Pacific Sea. The spokesperson said that our stand regarding this is clear and logical. This step of America severely threatens regional countries’ security, disrupting the region’s peace and stability.
