A 13-year-old boy in Ohio, USA, has been accused of allegedly planning a mass shooting at a local Jewish place of worship. According to court documents, the teen was planning a shooting at a synagogue in Ohio in September. The 13-year-old boy’s name is not in the court documents because he is a minor.
The minor had tried to create terror through a famous gaming platform, Discord. He is accused of posting a “detailed plan to carry out a mass shooting” at Temple Israel in Canton, a city south of Akron, during a live stream. The allegation against the minor comes amid rising anti-Semitism in the United States and around the world. In the US alone, anti-Semitic incidents are expected to increase by 35% from 2021 to 2022.
The Boy Has Been Arrested
According to documents released Thursday by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, an FBI agent told the department about the Discord post on September 7, ABC reports. The plans were initially posted on September 1 and included maps of an Israeli place of worship allegedly created by the boy and another.
In such a situation, the administration took this matter seriously and investigated. However, no weapon has been recovered from the boy during the investigation. But he has been arrested. The next hearing related to this case has been fixed on December 20.
The Boy Had Hatched A Conspiracy In September
“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding threats against our community. And each threat is investigated with the utmost seriousness,” Stark County Sheriff George Maier said. According to the report, this incident took place a month before the attack in Israel on October 7.
