This Country Is Changing Its Capital After Spending Billions Of Rupees, Know The Reason?

Indonesia’s New Capital: Indonesia is building a new capital. This capital is being established on the island of Borneo, named Nusantara. A senior Indonesian MP confirmed this on Friday. He said Indonesia’s parliamentary budget committee had approved an additional 15 trillion rupiah ($1.01 billion) to speed up the construction of the major new capital Nusantara.

According to the report of The Guardian, the chairman of the committee, it was said on Friday that the government would spend an additional 15 trillion rupees this year for the development of Nusantara, which is different from the 22 trillion rupees allocated for the development of the island of Borneo in the year 2023. A senior parliamentarian from Indonesia also confirmed this.

According to the MP, by June (2024) the government wants to develop Nusantara as a full-fledged capital. The government estimates that the President may stay there until next year due to the fast-paced development.

Target To Prepare The Capital By 2024

Indonesia plans to prepare the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Nusantara by the year 2024. Apart from the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the capital, the ministers’ offices should also be ready ahead of time; this is the government’s priority. The government is emphasising preparing the main administrative offices of the capital by the middle of 2024.

According to Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s plan, the government will fund only 20 per cent of the project’s total cost to establish Nusantara as the new capital, i.e. $32 billion. At the same time, the rest will come from the private sector.

The Reason Behind Building A New Capital

Significantly, Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, which is sinking fast, will no longer be the country’s capital. According to reports, one-third of Jakarta may be completely submerged in the sea by 2050. With this, the city has reached a dangerous level of pollution. In such a situation, Indonesian officials claim that the protection of the environment will be given priority for development in the new capital.
