China works under the ‘One China Policy’. Under this, China considers Taiwan as its part and insists that if needed, it will forcefully merge it with its mainland, while Taiwan considers itself utterly separate from China. This is the reason why there is always tension between the two countries. Fighter aircraft have often been sent from China to scare Taiwan. America has always objected to this.

Republican Party leader Vivek Ramaswamy has said that the US has adopted a policy that fails to recognize Taiwan as a nation. A posture of ‘strategic ambiguity’ has been adopted on whether the US will defend Taiwan against a Chinese attack.
Amid rising tensions with China over the Taiwan issue, Ramaswamy said on Sunday, “US national security interests must ensure that China does not gain sole control over the global semiconductor supply chain.” China may be troubled by this, as it may increase its challenge in the semiconductor industry.
Many types of meanings are extracted from this statement of Ramaswamy. It is said that if Ramaswamy becomes the President, he will openly support Taiwan and may insist on increasing the distance from China. America accepts China’s One China policy.
However, the Republican Party from which Ramaswamy comes has been opposing it to some extent. He believes that Taiwan has every right to regain its sovereignty. In such a situation, Ramaswamy can support Taiwan while staying on the party line.

In response to the development, a Chinese official newspaper said that America has now crossed the limit, which will have ‘fatal consequences’.
