Team India’s performance in the T20 World Cup was nothing special, and she was out of the title race after losing in the semi-finals. Now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started doing the post-mortem of the defeat.
In this episode, the board on Friday (November 18) sacked the national selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. It is being told that BCCI can also take a big decision regarding Rohit Sharma in the coming days.
According to the PTI report, BCCI has set some goals for the new selection committee, along with inviting applications. The first task of the new selection committee of Team India will be to make a separate captain for different formats.
Whenever the new selection committee takes over, it must choose captains in all three forms. This effectively means that the BCCI will now follow the pattern of different captains.
Will Hardik Get The Responsibility Till The World Cup?
According to the report, Rohit Sharma will continue to be the captain in ODI and Test cricket for the time being. At the same time, Hardik Pandya will become the captain of the Indian team in the shortest format till the 2024 T20 World Cup, to be held in USA and West Indies. Hardik is currently captaining the Indian team in the T20 series against New Zealand, and if he performs well as captain, then the decision will be sealed.
Hardik Has Impressed In Captaincy
29-year-old Hardik Pandya has presented himself as a leader this year, and the world sees his tremendous leadership potential. Hardik Pandya is continuously showing a great game with bat and ball. He does not let the pressure on himself, which makes him different from other players.
For example, before the start of IPL 2022, hardly any cricket expert had told Gujarat Titans a contender for victory. But due to the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, this new fledgling team became the IPL champion.
Hardik Pandya scored 487 runs in 15 matches in IPL 2022 at an average of 44.27, which included four half-centuries. Along with this, he did wonders in bowling and took eight wickets in his name.
Rohit Flopped In Both Captaincy and Batting
India has not won any ICC trophies since the 2013 Champions Trophy. In such a situation, everyone was hopeful that Rohit Sharma would be able to end the title drought this time. But Rohit could not improve Team India’s dismal record in ICC knockout games.
Rohit’s captaincy also appeared colourless in the semi-final match against England. His performance with the bat was poor throughout the tournament, and he scored 116 runs in six matches at an average of 19.33. During this, his strike rate was 106.42, which can be called very bad.
